Distrohoppage - OpenSuse (LXDE)

Next on my journey is OpenSuse.

Updates as-I-go on the Google+

Sept 29 2011

I've kind of dropped the ball on this one. I haven't really reviewed it in depth, but rather just taken notes on the google plus as I think of things. I'll keep that thread up-to-date as I go along. So far:

  • zypper is pretty decent. works well, easy to use. decently fast.
  • openSUSE is one of the major supported distros, and it uses .rpm. This is good for software support. (the "big ones' I generally think of are debian and Red Hat and their derivatives)
  • The LXDE implementation is decent. IMO not as good as Fedora, though.
  • YAST is very nifty. I haven't used it much, but it can do a lot. I wasn't sure how to do something on the command line off the top of my head, and YAST took care of it in a jif.

That's all I've got for now. Keep up on the g+ thread if you are interested. I'll move along at some point...Maybe Pardus will be next. I haven't even thought about it yet!
